A cheating scandal and subsequent end of an engagement is all water under the bridge for Iggy Azalea, who says in a new interview that she's happy to kick off her next album's era with a clean slate...especially since there are plenty of tell-offs to come.

Azalea, whose Digital Distortion is inches away from release, tells People that her choice to scrap her album and start fresh after her split from Nick Young didn't necessarily dampen the tone of her new work — rather, it gave her the chance to explore freedom she wouldn't have had otherwise.

“It wasn’t that I was sad or feeling down in the dumps or feeling like I wanted to write heartbreak ballads,” she said. “I was kind of excited about all of the things that I could do now, and I just really wanted to talk about that on my album.”

And the shift in tone will definitely be clear, she noted.

“When I started [writing], I think things were very lovey-dovey, and I was engaged and about to get married and in that head space,” she explained. “I had a lot of changes and a breakup and was sort of like, ‘Wow, okay. Now I’m a single woman in my mid-20s and I want to talk about other stuff now!”

Now, Azaelea says there will be a mix of "Screw you, I believe in me!'” and “sexy jams that you want to play with your girlfriends” on the album. And where her girlfriends are concerned, she said she's still in awe of how supportive Katy Perry — who co-wrote Azalea's "Black Widow" — has been across her career.

“I really appreciate the ongoing support with her over the years," Azalea said. "To me, she’s a real girl’s girl, and I love that.”
