It’s right there in the headline, but here’s an extra warning: Major SPOILERS ahead for Thor: Ragnarok, particularly the end of the film and the mid-credits scene. If you haven’t yet had a chance to see Taika Waititi’s thoroughly rad Thor sequel, you should probably turn back now…unless you’re not particularly concerned with spoilers. To each their own.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters today, bringing a total blast of fun and fresh air to the MCU with an ’80s heavy metal fantasy-inspired space adventure. There’s so much to love about Taika Waititi’s wild vision for the god of thunder and Hulk (and his butt!), and although much of Ragnarok stands apart from the rest of the MCU in completely fantastic ways, there are still (obviously) some narrative strings keeping it attached to the rest of the franchise.

For instance, there’s a scene in which Hela (Cate Blanchett) enters Odin’s trophy room and notes that most of the stuff in there — including an Infinity Gauntlet — is fake. Her statement is proven true when the gauntlet is knocked off its pedestal with ease; it’s far too light to be the real deal, and we know Thanos already has it, as shown in the mid-credits scene from Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The most significant implications for the MCU occur in Ragnarok’s climactic moments and mid-credits scene. As he retrieves Surtur’s mask to revive the fiery villain and defeat Hela, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) passes the Tesseract and snatches it up because of course he does. Although he’s on Team Thor this time around, the eternally opportunistic (and mischievous) Loki could very well switch teams when Thanos formally enters the game.

Which brings us to the mid-credits scene: Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Heimdall (Idris Elba, looking like Blade at a Renaissance Fair) and Loki are on board a ship filled with Asgardian refugees heading for Earth. They seem to be in the clear when a massive ship appears in front of them. If you assumed that Thanos is hanging out in that ship, you’d be correct.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige confirmed as much to The Wrap, revealing that the ship is known as Sanctuary II. As comics fans know, that’d be Thanos’ main ship, named after his giant fortress planet, Sanctuary. (He’s clearly creative in the naming department.)

With the Infinity Gauntlet in tow, Thanos is piloting his massive, intimidating super-ship to pick up the rest of the stones, which leads us right into Infinity War. The biggest cast of Marvel heroes yet will assemble to try and stop Josh Brolin’s big, purple baddie from taking control of the entire universe.

Now, about that Tesseract…
