Why We Love Relay For Life
Boomer and KGKL have been involved with the Tom Green County Relay For Life for the past 11 years, and we're looking forward to our 12th Relay For Life this Friday Night!
Relay always begins with a "Survivor's Lap" and it's wonderful to see the hundreds of cancer survivors who celebrate their battles and lives with their lap around the track.
They are joined on the 2nd lap by their caregivers and the track is full as these wonderful people make their lap. The 3rd Lap is for the Team Captains, and then Relay starts and continues all night long!
Relay Teams have at least one team member on the track throughout the night and for those who are looking for something to do to stay awake, try ZUMBA! All ages are out on the field showing off their zumba moves or just trying to keep up. The music is infectious and keeps everyone up and moving!
Around 3 am, it gets tough to stay awake, so it's time to walk or run the track again. Many teams provide coffee, energy drinks, and lots of sugary treats (can you say DONUTS?) to keep the blood flowing and the eyes open.
Military teams compete to see which team can run the most laps during the 12 hour period.
These ladies are deep in thought....another lap or another energy drink?
The Marines ran the most laps in 2015, and you can bet they'll be back to defend their title Friday Night!
We invite you to join us for a fun night of walking, food, games, a moving Luminaria Ceremony, and much more. It's an unforgettable experience and all of us at KGKL and Townsquare Media San Angelo are proud to sponsor and participate in the Tom Green County Relay For Life!
