There are certain things in hotel rooms that rarely get clean.  The bed spreads don't always get cleaned between each guest.  When you consider some of the disgusting things that might happen on them, it can make your skin crawl. Fortunately, what happens on hotel room bed spreads pretty much stays in the realm of conjecture, since people don't usually post it on social media.

In hotel room coffee pots on the other hand.  We know they don't get cleaned between every guest by housekeeping and we do have social media posts that demonstrate what sometimes happens with them.

Latest viral case in point.  Alexander Cohen, a product manager at a large healthcare startup in Austin recently made a post on LinkedIn of all places and it has gone viral. It has since spread to Twitter and Reddit.  On Twitter the post received nearly 100,000 likes and nearly 6,000 up votes and hundreds of comments.

On September 5, 2022, he posted:

That's right, he made garlic butter chicken using the in-room hotel coffee pot. Some people on social media were repulsed. Especially, those few people who have ever thought that using one of those in-hotel coffee pots might be a good idea, especially after some of the posts that have previously gone viral.

Reddit is full of posts from fight attendants who say they regularly clean their underwear in hotel room coffeepots.  There are many posts from hotel housekeepers on Reddit and other social media warning hotel guests NOT to use coffeepots or teapots in hotel rooms.

All of this has inspired people to think outside the regular boxes of creative ways to make meals in hotel rooms.  Rudy Magno roasts pepperoni on his hotel room iron. Twitter user Kanuj made eggs on the bottom of his company laptop.

Not sure whether the Austin man who makes chicken in his hotel room coffeepot every comes through San Angelo.  It is possible. In any event, after all this, I think I would be very careful about using the in-hotel room coffee pots.  I think I'll stick to the coffee they usually make in the lobby.  At least, until I see a photo on social media of someone who works in a hotel peeing in one of those pots.

On Second thought, I'll stick to Starbucks.
