Beyonce Wows the World With ‘I Was Here’ World Humanitarian Day Video
Beyonce unsurprisingly delivered a stunning turn with her performance of ‘I Was Here’ for today’s World Humanitarian Day (Aug. 19), and now we finally get to see her in action.
The video opens with sped up footage of the United Nations being set up for the event, then showcases audience cheers and a message of World Humanitarian Day’s mission: “One day, one message, one goal. To inspire people all over the world to do something good, no matter how big or small, for someone else.”
Queen Bey’s performance was flawless, flanked by images of both devastation and the humanitarian aid that helped victims recover and prosper. Filmed in a single take, it’s a truly moving tribute to the humanitarian and human spirit, and combined with Beyonce’s almost notoriously strict work ethic and almost universal revere, she was a beautiful and brilliant choice for the show.
In an interview with Anderson Cooper, Beyonce explained the choice behind using ‘I Was Here’ as the official anthem of the U.N. sponsored project. “We all want to know that our life meant something and that we did something for someone else, and that we spread positivity, no matter how big or how small, so the song was perfect for Humanitarian Day.”
The video aims to hit 1 billion people, and with a performance like this, we don’t think the U.N. will have a problem meeting that goal.
Um, Harry Belafonte – anything you’d like to add?
