After 16 years as host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart will sit behind the "fake news" anchor chair for the last time tonight. And if the rumors swelling this afternoon are true, his last musical guest will be a huge one: According to a couple of inside sources, Bruce Springsteen will appear on the show.

Backstreets Magazine, which has served as the unofficial Springsteen bible long before the Boss bulked up and sold out stadiums, tweeted a tease yesterday that read "You REALLY won't want to miss the final Daily Show with Jon Stewart tomorrow night." Likewise, earlier today Stan Goldstein, another Springsteen superfan who writes about the artist on, tweeted, "Look for Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band to be on Jon Stewart's final show on Thursday."

As ABC News Radio reports, Springsteen has been a regular guest on The Daily Show, where he has chatted with fellow New Jersey native Stewart on subjects as varied as music, politics and children's books.

In 2009, when Springsteen received a Kennedy Center Honor, Stewart was the one who introduced him with a funny and personal speech. "I cannot tell you where Bruce Springsteen falls in the pantheon of the American songbook," Stewart said. "But I am from New Jersey, and so I can tell you what I believe. And what I believe is this: Bob Dylan and James Brown had a baby ... "

Springsteen loved it, and it wouldn't be too surprising if he wanted to repay the favor. And as far as we know, he doesn't have anything else going on tonight.
