The Voice stage may as well have been a battlefield as the show's final nine contestants competed on last night's (May 9) episode, but it was, conversely, an on-stage union that commanded the audience's attention.

Fellow coaches Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, who have been dating since November 2015, debuted new duet "Go Ahead and Break My Heart" on the broadcast while essentially engaged in an unspoken staring contest. The song, which was released on iTunes yesterday ahead of Shelton's upcoming tenth LP If I'm Honest, tells the story of two people who are a little gun shy about entering into a relationship. In the clip above, though, there isn't a single misgiving between the pair.

"I never meant to get so into you / Thought I was using you just to get me through / You know I'm broken, I don't trust anyone / Last thing I needed was to fall in love," Stefani croons over the country track with lyrics that resemble those featured on her own "Make Me Like You." And while the production might be straight out of Nashville, she doesn't forfeit the signature tone that first made her a household name decades ago.

Here is what Christina Aguilera, another Voice coach, looks like while listening to "Go Ahead and Break My Heart":
