What Is The Allure Of Severe Weather?
My fascination with severe weather goes back over two decades when anytime severe weather hit, I would be mesmerized by its power and look for any sign of a tornado. Back then we had radars, but did not have the weather technology we have now and certainly didn't have all of the apps available now to track these storms.

With technology enabling us more resources to track weather, more and more people have started using these tools, though untrained, to track the storms themselves. Unfortunately, many people simply do not know how to use these tools correctly and may relay inaccurate information.
Fortunately, there are virtual classes you can take to learn valuable information on how to track a thunderstorm, understand how a tornado forms, and how you can help the community with this knowledge.
Become A Skywarn Storm Spotter
Skywarn is a volunteer program sponsored by the National Weather Service (NWS) that trains and utilizes community members to observe and report severe weather. Storm spotters provide real-time information about severe weather conditions, including tornadoes, hail, and heavy rainfall, which helps meteorologists improve their forecasts and warnings.
Skywarn will hold virtual classes where you can learn about severe weather and how to become a storm spotter from the comfort of your own home.
So, if you’re like me and have ever found yourself mesmerized by the power of a thunderstorm, or if you enjoy the thrill of observing the power of Mother Nature, becoming a Skywarn storm spotter might just be the adventure you've been waiting for.
