My Advice To Lubbock Graduates Of All Ages…Move
Congrats on your many years of school. Graduation is not a simple thing or everyone would do it.
Lubbock
Lubbock is a great place but it is not the end all be all. You are not getting an accurate picture of the world and it's people if you live in Lubbock all your life then settle down here. Trust me, there's a reason close to ten thousand people graduate at Texas Tech, then immediately head somewhere else. You opportunities are limited here and your skills may be much more valued somewhere else.
Somewhere Else
So where should you move to? It really doesn't matter. The fact is, you may move to someplace that you find even less desirable than Lubbock. You also may find that you were 100% cut out for big city, small town, or even beach life. You may even end up moving several places before you find a place to call home.
What To Expect
The world is not like Lubbock. The reason there's a place called, "The Bible Belt" is because there are places outside of it. The stores you see will seem foreign. The food you eat will change base on local availabilities. You may find people to elevate your game and you may fall in with losers (and it's important you find out the difference). You will 100% be homesick but don't act on it too quickly.
Lubbock Again
There's a twist to all this, which is, come back to Lubbock after you've experienced a little life. You have to get out there even if it's to see that you aren't missing anything. Lubbock will welcome you back whenever you get ready, it's just important that you broaden your horizons a bit before you settle down. It's going to suck being somewhere else for a bit, but it certainly is important. It would be tragedy if you were born, educated, and went to work all in the same place without getting a glimpse of what the rest of the world is like.
