Houston Airports Offer Free ASL Interpreters for Travelers
This is a big win for the hearing-impaired cummunity. If you’re traveling through Houston’s airports, Bush or Hobby in particular, there’s some really good news. They’re now the first in Texas to offer free, on-demand American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for deaf and hard-of-hearing travelers.
Houston Airports Make Travel Easier with Free ASL Interpreter App
The new feature works through the Aira ASL App, which connects people to live interpreters through video on their phones. Using the app, travelers can show what’s around them with their phone’s camera, and the interpreter helps guide them through every step from check-in to boarding the plane.

That's really cool. I took American Sign Language in college, and our professor had us read a lot of literature from deaf authors. Unlike blind people, who can communicate with others easily by talking to them, the deaf and hearing-impaired have a hard time communicating with people who can hear because most of us typically don't know sign language.
This barrier often leaves them feeling ostracised or somewhat of a burden when dealing with employees at places like the airport, so this is a great idea.
