President Donald Trump Highway Could Be Coming to Texas
Will we see a Donald Trump Highway in Texas? Some politicians are trying to make it happen by this September.
President Trump already has several roadways named after him. There's Trump Drive in Montana, Trump Avenue in Florida, and a President Donald J. Trump Highway in Oklahoma. Looks like Arizona and Kentucky have filed bills to name portions of their highways after the President and it looks like Texas is joining in as well.
Representative Joanne Shofner who represents District 11 in Texas has filed House Bill 5503. This bill, if passed, would rename a portion of I-35 President Donald J. Trump Highway. I-35 is major highway in Texas going through Dallas-Fort Worth, Waco, Austin, San Antonio, and Laredo. This potential Donald J. Trump Highway would only affect the Travis County portion of I-35.
According to Wikipedia, the Travis County portion of I-35 runs from mile marker 221 to mile marker 247. So just over twenty five miles of roadway would be renamed after the President. If passed, funding for the signage would come from grants and private donations, while the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) would be responsible for future maintenance.
Many bills have been filed recently to honor the President of the United States. Just a few weeks ago in Oklahoma, a bill was filed to give President Trump his own holiday in the state. We will wait and see if either of these pass in 2025.
