Viral Video Shows Texas Middle School Student Slapping Teacher, Teacher Now On Leave
A viral cellphone video has lead to an investigation of a fight that broke out at Summer Creek Middle School in Crowley ISD. The video shows a seventh-grade student striking a teacher last Friday.
The video was sent to WFAA in Dallas after it was sent to several students and parents via airdrop according to WFAA.
The altercation last Friday was addressed by the school on Monday when they acknowledged the video was going viral on social media. The school is withholding the names of the student and the teacher.
Crowley ISD Places Teacher on Leave
In the letter to parents, the principal of the school told parents that the teacher who was slapped in the video is now on administrative leave while police and the school investigate what happened in the video.
According to KHOU, the video shows a student hitting a teacher. The teacher then throws a punch at the student. You can see the video and report from WFAA below.
KHOU reported that one parent believes both the student and teacher were wrong.
“Wow. Like, why did this happen? Why did they take it this far? What provoked this child to want to slap an adult?” Hollie said.
Hollie told WFAA she did not hear from the school immediately after the incident but, like many parents, expressed her concerns after seeing the video on social media.
“I looked at it several times because, on both ends, I just feel like they're both wrong because I don't think a child should put their hands on an adult,” she said.
The investigation continues. Sadly there are many examples of students throwing punches at teachers, and plenty of videos on YouTube and other social media sites.
