It is astonishing how many data breaches occur every day. These incidents do not discriminate; they affect all types of businesses. Unfortunately, it is the customers of these businesses who suffer because the sensitive information they are storing can now be accessed by cybercriminals.

You have several choices and directions to choose when you have had your data breached.

  • Change Your Passwords
  • Monitor your credit
  • Monitor your accounts
  • Look into identity theft protection and monitoring
  • Freeze Your Credit
  • Get a copy of your credit report

Unfortunately, you are going to have to be the proactive one to protect your identity.  It may cost you money to do so, even though you were responsible for the data leak.  Sometimes the companies where your data was stolen, will give you a few options to protect your identity.

How do you prevent your Data from Being Stolen?

  • Set up two-factor authentication on your accounts
  • Use strong passwords, you may have to use those long gibberish passwords your computer and phone suggest.
  • Use public Wi-Fi with caution
  • Monitor your credit
  • Make sure your software is up to date
  • Be careful of where you share your information

If you share your information with businesses it won't ever be 100% safe, but you can protect yourself.
