Remember When McGruff the Crime Dog Was Arrested In Texas?
He is an icon not only in Texas, but across the nation as well.
His commercials are well known by adults and kids alike. His urging for all of us to "Take a bite of crime" is forever in our minds. He is none other than McGruff The Crime Dog.
Throughout the years, Texans, and Americans, learned the right things to do when out and about. Many of us would never expect a spokesperson to do anything against the law right? Especially one who is on the right side of the law.
But in 2014, the unimaginable happened. McGruff the Crime The Dog was arrested. But wait, how was a cartoon dog taken into custody?
McGruff The Crime Dog Placed Under Arrest?!?
Well, to be truthful, McGruff wasn't placed in handcuffs. Rather, it was the man who was voicing McGruff, John Morales. Per CBS News, Morales' troubles with the law began in 2011.
Morales was placed under arrest following law enforcement's discovery of 1,000 marijuana plants, 9,000 rounds of ammunition, and 27 weapons, once of which was none other than a grenade launcher. So, Morales was not adhering to the advice of his cartoon counterpart.
To say the least, the law itself did not take too kindly to the discovery. Morales did eventually plead guilty, and said during the sentencing phase that he was not violent. However, according to CBS News, Vanessa Gilmore, The U.S District Judge, said “Everything I read about you makes you seem like a scary person."
So what's the lesson here? Crime doesn't pay!
