Have you done it? You get out of your vehicle at the gas station and put the nozzle in your car and start pumping gas. But, then you leave. STICKER WARNING ON GAS PUMP!
So, is it illegal in Texas to leave your gas pumping into your car while unattended? I googled this many times and looked for any state with any sort of law and I couldn't find and particular law on the books that says it's illegal to leave the pump unattended? BUT, what about the sticker on the gas pump that says
You must remain in attendance outside your vehicle while fueling ...
Well, apparently it is HIGHLY SUGGESTED that you do not leave your gas unattended while pumping and this is why many places post a sticker as SAFETY WARNINGS!
SAFETY IS WHY YOU SHOULD NOT LEAVE YOUR PUMP UNATTENDED!
Whether it is a law OR NOT , it seems to be a rule of thumb that it is not a good idea to leave your gas pumping while you are not standing there next to it. Gas stations have POLICYS against leaving it unattended AND THAT'S WHY YOU SEE WARNING STICKERS ALL OVER THE PLACE. The possibility of gas spillage is a main reason for having these policies in place at most gas stations. Follow the policies of the gas station you are using! Safety is key and most important while pumping your gas. BE SAFE!
