Since moving to Odessa, Texas, one thing I have heard about is the dating scene.  I am a single guy so I guess I was at least curious, having said that, I asked around to a few of the locals.  To be honest, the answers I received weren't very surprising.  Some described the dating scene in the Permian Basin as "nonexistent", a "dumpster fire",  and one local didn't even describe it.  He simply said "don't do it".

Is it really that bad out here?  Prior to moving here, I did what anyone else would do as they ramp up to move to another part of the country.  Of course, I turned to social media to gain insight on the region, culture, and what the nightlife would be like.  Upon my research, I saw many TikToks and Reels of numerous people complaining about the dating scene in the 432.

Fine, I acknowledge that a large portion of the singles in the area are not a fan of the local scene.  However, it brings up the question of where to go to meet people if you do decide to make the leap into the dating pool.  I took to the streets of Midland-Odessa to find out.

The obvious first place someone might look is the local nightclubs.  However, finding a person to get into anything further than casual fun isn't likely.  It's do-able, but not likely despite what city you live in.

Another obvious place someone may attempt to try and look for someone is at church (depending on your spiritual situation/beliefs).  There are plenty of churches in the area with many different types of people.  If church is your thing, give it a try.

If you like to eat, then go to places where they have delicious food.  That, or go to new places you may not have tried otherwise.  You just might find someone with similar taste.

If you like clothes or shopping, then any of the malls may suit your fancy.  Granted, some people may find meeting someone at a mall clique, but hypothetically if you met the person you later married, would it really matter if you met them at a mall?  I'd like to think no.

The trick here is to do and go somewhere relatable.  If you like cars, go to local speedways or events where cars are on display.  If you are into sports, go to local sporting events or venues.  The truth is that it doesn't matter the WHERE or the HOW you meet someone,  the point is to meet likeminded individuals like yourself. That is how you establish a connection.

Regardless of where you may go, one thing is for certain.  Without a conscious effort, you are not going to find someone.  No one is going to knock at your door and sweep you off your feet.  You have to go outside at some point if you are serious about making a meaningful connection with another human being. 👀
