When it comes to the big 3, national convenience stores in El Paso, if you guessed either #1 or #2, then you're kinda correct. They're almost tied and #3 is way behind.

There are s lot of "Mom 'n Pop" convenience stores around El Paso and a few that are part of "mini" chains. As far as the big guys go, the big 3 in the 915 are Circle K, DK, (formerly 7-11) and Speedway.

According to the internet, the big 3 add up to 181 stores collectively with Circle K and DK tied by decision.

AI factored into these numbers a great deal so you have to give me a little wiggle room here, I didn't have time to drive around counting 'em. For DK, I got 77, for Circle K, I got 73 and Speedway has 27.

How Did Circle K And DK Tie?

In all honesty, I sorta got a little creative there. DK is now transitioning to OXXO and some El Paso stores have already rebranded so I backed them down enough to force the tie. That and the fact that Circle K started out locally.

Yep, Circle K was Hecho en El Paso. True story, a businessman and former, (2 term), El Paso Mayor named Fred Hervey started the chain here in El Chuco back in 1951. There are now 762 Circle K stores in Texas alone and 6,860 across the USA and a few US territories.

Only 10 states and territories DON'T have Circle K's.

  • Kansas
  • U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Northern Mariana Islands
  • Puerto Rico
  • Nebraska
  • Utah
  • Oklahoma
  • District of Columbia
  • American Samoa
  • Guam
