Visiting This Texas State Park? Better Hit The Bathroom First
If your summer vacation plans include a trip to one particular Texas State Park, you should use the bathroom first. Once you're in, you won't find an accessible one.
Texas State Parks are getting ready for all the summer vacationers and, while some are understaffed, they expect a successful season. One in particular may meet visitors with an unpleasant surprise.
The Enchanted Rock State National Area has locked up the restrooms. The "nice" ones anyway, porta potties are still available.
Due to drought conditions in the area, park officials made the decision to close the comfort station at the trailhead and the shower areas used by campers during the day. The parks needs about 7K gallons of water everyday to properly operate the toilet and shower areas. Thanks to the drought, the parks wells have only been producing about 4K per day.
Campers can access the shower area daily from 5pm - 8am. The restrictions will probably be in place, at least, through spring according to mysanantonio.com although I myself don't see the drought easing up in summer when it gets hotter.
Brig plenty of water with you as, again, it's in short supply within the park. While you're there you can wander around 11 miles of hiking trails or you can spend the afternoon rock climbing or "bouldering". Pets are allowed but only in certain areas.
Enchanted Rock State National Area is about 18 miles north of Fredericksburg. Take highway 16 for 14 miles south and then go west on Ranch Road 965 to the park.
