Kim Cattrall Says ‘Sex and the City’ Ruined Her Marriage
Cattrall, who played the the famously scandalous Samantha Jones, maintains the experience of emulating the hilariously brash character is still "unforgettable." But it came at a cost, she told news.com.au: her relationship with her husband suffered tremendously.
Cattrall was married to jazz bassist Mark Levinson from 1998 to 2004. She'd previously been married to Larry Davis from 1977 to 1979 and Andre J. Lyson from 1982 to 1989.
"[SATC] cost me my marriage, because I was never home,” she said. “I was never there and my husband got lonely and upset and competitive, and it was really difficult, it was really hard. You end up spending more time with my Sex and the City family than I did with my real family."
And even more inwardly, Cattrall said filming the show wasn't easy, and left her with little time for herself.
"It was really fun, but there was always a wave coming towards you and you had to learn to dive under and swim,” she said. “On weekends you’d finish filming at 9 AM on Saturday morning, and I had to be back at 5:45 AM in the morning on Monday. So I basically had a day-and-a-half off, and in that day-and-a-half I would need to learn my lines for the whole next week."
