Donald Trump may have nominated a climate change-denier to hold the office of Environmental Protection Agency head (deep breaths...), but Leonard DiCaprio isn't surrendering a future in which Earth's natural resources are torched in the name of big business.

DiCaprio, a relentless environmental advocate, joined with CEO of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Terry Tamminen yesterday (December 7) to discuss clean energy and renewable resources with President-elect Trump, according to The Associated PressTamminen said he and DiCaprio aimed to reiterate that protecting the environment isn't simply a leftist agenda, but a necessary endeavor for a thriving economy, too.

"Today, we presented the President-elect and his advisors with a framework, which LDF developed in consultation with leading voices in the fields of economics and environmentalism, that details how to unleash a major economic revival across the United States that is centered on investments in sustainable infrastructure," Tamminen said. "Our conversation focused on how to create millions of secure, American jobs in the construction and operation of commercial and residential clean, renewable energy generation."

Sometime during the 90-minute meeting, DiCaprio also gave Trump a copy of his documentary Before the Flood, which addresses the many perils and consequences of climate change. Trump said he promised to watch.

DiCaprio brought issues surrounding the environment to a worldwide stage in February, when he dedicated his very first Oscar win to those fighting to protect the planet. The speech became the most-tweeted moment in Academy Awards history.

"We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people out there who would be most affected by this,” he said. “For our children’s children, and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed. I thank you all for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted."
