Liam Payne revealed he "absolutely hated" Louis Tomlinson in One Direction's early days.

It turns out that back when they first formed 1D with Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik, the two didn't get along very well because they both believed they should lead the group. The 26-year-old singer said that even though the band looked like they all go along very well, behind-the-scenes, things were "really bad."

“When we were in the band, it kind of felt like because he was the oldest and because I’d been singing for quite a bit of time we both got put in a weird position because he was wanting to be the leader, and I was doing my thing and wanted to," Payne told Hits Radio Breakfast. "So, at first, we didn’t get on at all.

"We absolutely hated each other, it was so funny. Really bad. We hid it well. It was crazy," he continued.

Thankfully, they put their differences behind them: “In the end, we kind of just settled that we both do different parts of what the thing was and now I feel like that’s kind of followed through into life," he said.

In fact, Payne revealed that he and Tomlinson are still very close despite's 1D's hiatus. "I speak a lot to Louis. I think, obviously, he’s been through so much and we’ve been through so much together as well," he explained.

The pair even had a mini reunion in Madrid last weekend.
