Mick Jagger serves as producer on a new documentary focusing on the early life and music of James Brown, set to premiere at 9PM EST on Oct. 27 on HBO. 'Mr. Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown' follows the recently released biopic 'Get on Up,' which Jagger also worked, as an executive producer.

'Mr. Dynamite,' directed by Academy Award winner Alex Gibney, traces Brown's rise with new interviews and rare material provided through the cooperation of the late R&B legend's family.

"We had full access to amazing never-before-seen photos and video from James Brown's estate, which Alex Gibney used brilliantly to tell the story of James' career from its inception through its pinnacle," Jagger said in a statement announcing the film. "We spoke with the extraordinary people who knew James well and worked alongside him throughout his career. By hearing their fascinating stories and memories, we were able to paint the full picture of James as both a musical artist and social activist, whose legacy and impact on the music industry is ever-present."

'Mr. Dynamite' includes new interviews with Brown sidemen like Maceo Parker, Alfred "Pee Wee" Ellis and Fred Wesley, as well as with next-generation fans like Questlove and Chuck D.

Gibney, winner of an Academy Award in 2007 for 'Taxi to the Dark Side' and an Oscar nominee in 2005 for 'Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room,' said Jagger "reached out to" him, requesting that he direct 'Mr. Dynamite.' He said they shared the same goals for the project: "to take the music of James Brown and put it into a larger historical context."
