Kia is recalling close to 380,000 vehicles because there is a risk of fire coming from the engine compartment.

Let’s break that down for you as far as which Kia automobiles are being recalled. The recall has been issued for the 2017-2019 Cadenza and also the 2017-2021 Sportage.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website an electrical short-circuit can cause a fire. The Korean automaker defined the reason for the recall by saying a short circuit in the hydraulic electronic brake control unit can cause excessive current, increasing the risk of a fire.

Owners could see tire pressure, anti-lock brake or other warning lights on their dashboard before the problem happens. They also might smell a burning or melting odor.

Kia also says the recalled vehicles are not equipped with Kia's Smart Cruise Control system.

Owners will be notified starting April 30. Dealers will replace fuses in the electrical junction box to fix the problem.

Owners of the above listed vehicles are urged to park outside and away from other structures until the vehicle can be taken to a dealership to replace the parts in question.

Kia said that the company is unaware of any fires being caused by an electrical short in the engine compartments of either Cadenzas or Sportages. This isn't the first time Kia and also  Hyundai vehicles have been recalled over issues that could possibly cause a fire. In the fall of last year, both Hyundai and Kia recalled 591,000 vehicles for a brake-fluid leak which could result in a fire. And even earlier in the 2020, Hyundai recalled 430,000 Elantra sedans because of concerns about water entering the ABS module and starting a fire.
