Niall Horan’s New Heartbreak Song Was Inspired By Ex Hailee Steinfeld
Niall Horan's new song "Put a Little Love on Me" is reportedly about his breakup with Hailee Steinfeld.
Though the former One Direction singer didn't straight-up confirm the track is about the Bubblebee actress, Horan revealed he wrote it around the time the two split after 10 months of dating in December 2018.
"It wouldn't be my album if it didn't have a sad, sad, sad ballad on it. This could potentially be my favorite song I've ever written," the 25-year-old told The Sun in a new interview. "I'd just gone through a breakup and it was all very real. It was very easy to sit down at the piano and speak and see what happens."
According to E! News, the pair called it quits due to conflicting work schedules. "Hailee and Niall were going strong over the summer but split a few months ago and have been trying to keep it low-key," the insider said.
Based on the lyrics, "Put a Little Love on Me" is definitely a breakup ballad.
“I’ve still got so much love here beneath this skin/ So darling put a little love on me/ Put a little love on me," Horan sings on the track. “When the lights come up and there’s no shadows dancing/ I look around as my heart is collapsing/ Because you’re the only one I need/ So put a little love on me."
The Irish crooner also revealed he teamed up with Adele's producer Greg Kurstin, who worked on "Hello." Horan said, "When I gave him this song and asked him to produce it, I said, ‘Adele the sh-t out of this."
His second solo album is slated for release in early 2020.
