Pedro Pascal Will Join the Star Wars Universe As ‘The Mandalorian’
Star Wars’ first live-action series for Disney’s new streaming service Disney+ is really coming together. The lineup of episode directors for The Mandalorian is already super impressive — Taika Waititi, Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Star Wars animation guru Dave Filoni — and now Variety reports the show has potentially landed a significant leading man, with Narcos and Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal now in “negotiations” for the lead role:
Jon Favreau penned the series, which is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. It follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
Pascal has the experience and chops to hold down a television series, and he’s got some action bonafides too — he was recently seen mixing it up with the heroes and villains of Kingsman: The Golden Circle as Agent Whisky, an American spy in a Stetson who likes to brandish a whip. Maybe the Mandalorian will have a space whip? That would save the production some money on fight training, and you know how these Star Wars shows are; they do everything on the cheap.
Disney+ doesn’t have an official launch date yet, but it is supposed to be available to the public at some point in 2019. Start saving your space credits now.
