The Pixar release calendar is looking a little light these days. The only official title they have coming up is next summer’s Toy Story 4. After that, we had no official Pixar movies to look forward to — until the announcement today that the studio’s big 2020 release will be an original animated feature titled Onward.

In a press release, Disney revealed the film’s plot synopsis:

Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney/Pixar’s “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. “At Pixar we try to create stories that come from some kind of personal truth,” said [director Dan] Scanlon. “This film was inspired by my own relationship with my brother.”

Scanlon directed the Monsters Inc. prequel, Monsters University. And he has assembled an impressive voice cast for the project: Chris Pratt and Tom Holland (they don’t specify, but I’m going to assume they play the two elf brothers), Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Octavia Spencer.

Pixar fans who scrutinize the company’s ever decision will surely be pleased that Pixar is working on another original project rather than a sequel; when Onward opens in two years it will be just the fifth original Pixar feature of the decade. Over that same stretch of time they’ve released an equal number of sequels, including Incredibles 2Cars 3, and Finding Dory.

Onward will open in theaters on March 6, 2020.
