Robert E. Lee Middle School Has A New Name
Back in October, the San Angelo Independent School District voted to change the name of Robert E Lee Middle School, and yesterday, December 14 they officially decided a new name.
Board members reviewed a list of more than 120 suggested names, which included area geography, local flora and fauna, and local heroes.
And they decided upon Lonestar Middle School.
Many names were suggested for other historical figures:
-Barack Obama Middle School and Donald Trump Middle School both popular suggestions.
-Maj. Troy L. Gilbert and Mary Frances Butler Owens were both nominated as well, with both people having connections to San Angelo.
-Other names like, Concho, Liberty, Legacy, and Veterans Memorial were also suggested before they chose Lonestar.
Lonestar is not only a safe bet, it is also a cost effective one.
Many school emblems are just an L due to the name, Lee.
So there won't be as much cost to change logos and such around the school.
They will also be changing the mascot of the school, which will be chosen in January.
