Shang-Chi has been Marvel’s master of kung fu for decades of comic books. But beyond the pages of Marvel Comics, Shang-Chi is relatively unknown. That will change in February of 2021 when Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hits theaters.

If you’re impatient to meet Marvel’s martial artist supreme, this video will tide you over in the meantime. It explores Shang-Chi’s comic-book backstory — revealing his origin and his inspirations (Bruce Lee was really big in the 1970s, guys) — and even taking a few guesses about how he will fit into the mythos of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and maybe even tie up one of the biggest loose ends that has been dangling through the MCU since the very first film.
