Scorsese and De Niro Are Back With the First ‘The Irishman’ Trailer
Almost 25 years after their last collaboration, director Martin Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro have finally reunited for a new movie. The Irishman is Scorsese and De Niro’s ninth movie together, but their first since 1995’s Casino. It’s based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses. Here’s the official synopsis:
Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th Century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.
The Irishman was made using digital technology, so that De Niro can play his character through various periods of his life. The brief glimpses we get of young De Niro in the trailer look ... okay. Hopefully the effects are still being finished before the movie comes out. One does not want to be distracted by weird CGI faces when they’ve got Scorsese and De Niro back together — along with Joe Pesci and Al Pacino, working with Scorsese for the very first time.
The Irishman will debut on Netflix and in select theaters this fall. It makes its premiere in late September as the opening night film at the New York Film Festival.
