This time of year thunderstorms are common across much of the U.S.—and it’s important to stay safe.

The good news is: the number of lightning fatalities has actually gone down over the past two decades, but there are some activities contribute higher than others to the death tole of lightning strikes

The National Lightning Safety Council (NLSC) says a review of 418 lighting strikes that happened between 2006 and 2019.

This study shows that 62 percent of deaths were linked to leisure activities, far more than any other activities like work.

They also said loud activities are dangerous because they drown out the sound of thunder so you won't know to seek shelter.
