There are five cities named Abilene in the United States alone. There is only one city in the world named Lubbock. San Angelo is somewhere in the middle.  There are only three cities in the world named San Angelo.  Only one of them is in the United States.

The other two "San Angelos" are in Italy. On is San Angelo in Marche.  The other is San Angelo in Lazio.

Monte San Angelo is an ancient city built on a  hilltop of Puglia's Gargano peninsula. The town is clustered around a popular pilgrimage destination. Here in the grotto sanctuary, apparitions of the archangel Michael were reported in the 490s.  The town itself dates to the 490's

The town itself dates to the 11th century, established by the Normans. The sanctuary of Monte Sant'Angelo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The remains of the 11th-century castle and its so-called Torre Dei Giganti or Tower of the Giants can be found here.

Along with the murals, sights in this San Angelo include the Orsini-Cesi castle which lies on top of the old town.  The castle hosts a prehistorical museum. The main body of the castle is the balance of prince Federico Cesi, the founder of Accademia dei Lincei.
