‘Annie’ Trailer: Jamie Foxx Has a Batman Complex
While the latest ‘Annie’ trailer -- highlighting moments from the upcoming movie remake of the classic Broadway play -- expectedly has a lot of singing and dancing, it’s more about the comedy this time around, which is full of your classic Broadway musical-style cheesiness cheekiness. Even Jamie Foxx’s Daddy Warbucks knockoff spinoff Will Stacks can make a crack at The Dark Knight (a joke which you’ll see brought up again).
Quvenzhané Wallis, who wowed audiences a few years ago with her turn in ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ (and her love of animal backpacks), takes the title role in this latest remake of ‘Annie,’ directed by Will Gluck (‘Easy A,’ ‘Friends With Benefits’) and produced by the Smiths. (Funny story, Will and Jada Pinkett originally planned ‘Annie’ as a vehicle for their daughter Willow “Whip My Hair” Smith, but she apparently “outgrew” the role.)
We all know the basic gist of ‘Annie,’ though there are some new variations to this modern rendition -- like instead of Daddy Warbucks, Jamie Foxx is now Will Stacks (or, as we like to call him, Will Stacks-on-Stacks-on-Stacks):
Academy Award® nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) stars as Annie, a young, happy foster kid who’s also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they’d be back for her someday, it’s been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). But everything’s about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) – advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) – makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. Stacks believes he’s her guardian angel, but Annie’s self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it’s the other way around.
‘Annie’ will hit theaters come Christmas time and will surely give you even more holiday cheer than you can handle.
