A prequel spinoff for CBS’ bafflingly popular scripted comedy The Big Bang Theory is currently in its earliest stages of development, according to TV Line.

The possible new series’ plot will reportedly revolve around a young Sheldon Cooper, focusing on his early life in Texas. Jim Parsons -- the actor who plays adult Sheldon on the current series -- will not play the spinoff role, but he is set to executive-produce the show along with Big Bang Theory co-creator Chuck Lorre and its show runner Steve Molaro.

News of the possible prequel -- which will reportedly feature none of the show's current cast, due to its timeline -- comes amid heavy speculation over whether the popular comedy will continue to air. The show has yet to be renewed beyond its current Season 10, but key cast members are reportedly negotiating their contracts.

“We are very confident that everyone involved wants more Big Bang past Year 10,” CBS president Glenn Geller said back in August. “I know Warner Bros will make those deals… We’ll put it on for as long as everyone wants Big Bang on the air. I hope it lasts forever.”

Parsons responded similarly to a possible renewal, indicating the entire cast would be onboard with future seasons, telling TVLine, "If the opportunity to go past Season 10 came up, I’d be very hard-pressed to tell you who [among the cast] might say no — if anybody would. I wouldn’t.”
