Watch David Lee Roth’s Hysterical (and NSFW) Response to a Beer-Throwing Fan
We've never understood the practice of throwing beer at concerts -- or anywhere, for that matter -- especially not given the price of them these days. But if you're going to do it at a Van Halen show, just be sure to aim nowhere near the stage, unless you want to raise the ire of David Lee Roth. The singer displayed typically fine, crude form in slamming a beer-thrower at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, N.J. on Thursday (Aug. 27)
As you can see in the video above, the band had just finished "In a Simple Rhyme" and were launching into "Dirty Movies" when Roth stopped the proceedings. "Somebody just threw a beer up here," he said, as a roadie cleaned it up. "In a younger day I would've promised I would've slept with his girlfriend. At this point in my career, the roughest, most f---ed insult I could probably make to this guy is that I probably already have slept with his wife. 'Can you control that motherf---er? I'll talk to you later, sweetheart.'
Even Eddie Van Halen had to laugh.
With that, Roth cued the band to start the next number, but not before issuing a few parting shots. "The next time, you save the beer for me, you slime," he said before making an obscene gesture with the microphone and flipping the bird.
Roth appears to have fully recovered from the bout of flu that forced Van Halen to cancel last Sunday's concert. Van Halen's summer tour continues tonight at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Va. They will remain on the road through Oct. 2, when they will play the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. You can see all the remaining dates here.
