You may be headed to the Texas coast for the long Memorial Day weekend. Well, if you find yourself on one of our sandy beaches, there could be a strange threat waiting there for you.

Authorities in Matagorda County, located between Corpus Christi and Galveston, recently found several bricks of cocaine on the coastal beach.

Over 50 kilos or 100 pounds of drugs were found on the beaches in the county over a period of one week according to the sheriff’s office Facebook page.

The sheriff’s office says packages could pose a threat to beach goers.

Once the package becomes wet, the substance in the package could become liquid form and leak from the package. Once the substance becomes liquid form it is easier to absorb into the skin and could cause a person to become ill or it could possibly be fatal.

In addition, the office says anyone who picks up a package could be charged with criminal possession. They advise you contact sheriff officials if you encounter a package.

I guess the next question would be where in the world did all this cocaine come from and how did it end up on the coast of Texas?

I'm not expert on ocean currents, but my guess is it made it's way north from South America. Or maybe it floated west from Cuba?

And then I wonder whose cocaine this is? It's highly doubtful anyone will claim it.
