An Open Letter To Those Who Drive I-20 Between Abilene & DFW
I'll be clear. I don't want to die in a car accident. Wrapped up in a twisted mess of metal on the highway is just not the way I want to go. I've seen the ugly side of car wrecks. When I was growing up I was involved in an accident that involved a fatality. That's a rough thing to go through. It messed me up for a long time. Vehicles can be killing machines.. Ask anyone who has ever been involved in a serious crash or is the family member of someone who lost their life in an accident.
I'm sure you've noticed that semi-trucks are everywhere on the highways, including I-20. On my latest trek to the metroplex, I was trying to pass one of these trucks. But alas, when I tried to gain speed around the semi, a pickup truck blew right up on my tail in the passing lane as if their cruise control was set at 120 mph. Reckless driving around an 18-wheeler is a great way to end up dead.
I say all of this to get a message out: be safe. We all have someplace to be. Slamming into the back of my vehicle is not going to get either of us there any quicker. As soon as I pass the semi-truck, I promise I'll let you speed right on by.
I love my life and the people who are in it. I love my job and I don't want things to end anytime soon. It's already a crazy enough world we live in. Let's take it easy, and be cautious on the road. Thank you.
