Applications Open For Free Or Reduced School Meals For Texas Students
More Important Information You Need To Know To Get Your Kids Ready For Back To School!
Hang on parents, its almost over! Summer is coming to a close and the new school year is just weeks away so as you get ready for school shopping, don't forget to make sure your kids meals are taken care of.
The Texas Department of Agriculture has opened applications for free and reduced-price meals for the 2023-24 school year.
According NBC DFW, students needing free and reduced-price meals need to have an approved application to receive them.
To determine if a student is eligible, schools look at income, participation in other federal nutrition assistance programs, and status as a foster child, homeless, runaway, migrant, or displaced by a declared disaster, according to the TDA.
Where Can I Apply?
Parents and caregivers can find the standard application at the TDA website HERE. You can also contact your students' schools to request an application. The completed application can be returned to the school's office or submitted online, if applicable.
Make Sure You Get It Done Before The First Day Of School!
Don't procrastinate! Make sure you get this done before your child's first day in class to avoid any problems with your kids school when they go to grab a bite to eat. Submitting the application for free and reduced-price meals early will help schools prepare to implement this new benefit and provide healthy, balanced meals to more students according to Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller.
