More New Jobs in Texas

Texas Public Policy Foundation's Economist Dr. Vance Ginn issued the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics state-level labor market information for April 2017 released Friday.

“Texas led all states with 30,400 net nonfarm jobs created in April and with 258,900 jobs created in the last twelve months,” said Dr. Ginn. “Texas employers have been consistent job creators as net nonfarm jobs were up in 75 of the last 79 months, and the unemployment rate of five percent has been at or below that rate for 34 straight months—a feat unmatched by other large states.

Other measures also indicate Texas leads the way in reducing poverty, such as the share of the population employed of 60.9 percent is well above the national average.
