San Angelo Residents Targeted in Yet Another Scam Alert Today
It seems every day there is another scam warning. So many are targeting our area. Local authorities are particularly warning of a convincing new scam that's sweeping through our area.
According to a press release from local officials here is how the scam works. Someone will call you claiming the be a US Marshal regarding a personal matter. The call comes from this number: 325-718-2251. The call connects you to a robotic voice, and claims to be from a local Marshal office that isn't even occupied at this time.
According to the Press Release from Precinct 4 Constable Randy Harris' office, the name of the US Marshal being used is from a person that retired some years back. It is important if you get this call, do not give out any information.
Whenever you have doubts about whether a call reportedly from a US Marshal's office is legit or not, you can contact the U.S. Marshal's office at 206-370-8400. If you believe you have been a victim of a scam, report the incident to your local FBI office. Their number is 325-942-8588.
You should also file a consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission which has the ability to detect patterns of fraud from the information collected and share that data with law enforcement.

U.S. Marshals will never ask for credit /debit card / gift card numbers, wire transfers, or bank information for any purpose.
Don’t divulge personal or financial information to unknown callers.
Report scam calls to your local FBI office and to the FTC.
