The Downtown Development Commission will conduct a special meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 5, in the McNease Convention Center to discuss and consider the next steps to executing the strategies outlined in a master plan for continuing the revitalization of downtown San Angelo.
Downtown stakeholders and other interested parties are encouraged to attend the public meeting at the Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive; the feedback gathered will be crucial to guiding the DDC and the City Council in future decisions regarding downtown revitalization.

“Downtown San Angelo is a focal point in our community for culture, entertainment, commerce and, increasingly, residential living,” said City Manager Daniel Valenzuela, who serves as the commission’s staff liaison. “The rebirth of our downtown has been exciting and gratifying, but the City of San Angelo realizes there’s much more that could and should be done to maximize the wonderful asset we have in our historic downtown.”

The City Council charged the Downtown Development Commission with overseeing the drafting and implementation of a master plan, developing a scope of services for a downtown master developer, and making recommendations to the City Council related to incentives, regulations and other downtown development decisions.

Last year, the DDC and City Council approved a contract for the first phase of the master developer effort. That culminated with the adoption earlier this year of a downtown master development strategic plan. The plan provides market analysis and strategies for attracting the types of reinvestment that will be a good fit for downtown San Angelo. It recommends financing options, public-private partnerships, and modifications to policies, marketing strategies and infrastructure investments.
