Alright, Alright, Not Alright? Are You Happy Matthew McConaughey is not Running for Texas Governor?
So, Matthew McConaughey announced last night that he will not be running for the office of Governor of the state of Texas at this time. The actor had been rumored to run for the governorship of Texas for many months.
In announcing his decision in a tweet, McConaughey said he will shift his focus to helping businesses prosper.
The reaction on Twitter was mixed amongst the comments to McConaughey's announcement.
There were some respondents who suggested McConaughey throw his support behind Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke.
So, what do you think of all this? Some polls I saw had McConaughey as a lead candidate for the governorship in the state. Should he reconsider? Will he reconsider? Or are you happy he is not running for governor now "at this time"?
I am not sure McConaughey would make a good governor. I think he's a good actor, but is he qualified to be governor? And what are his opinions on what Texans care about like the border, ERCOT, and infrastructure? McConaughey hasn't really come out and said where he stands on certain issues.
Maybe this is all a popularity contest. We've seen actors and celebrities become governors in the past. Arnold Schwarzenegger became governor of California. Former professional wrestler Jess Ventura became governor of Minnesota. It seemed like those campaigns were media circuses when they happened. Would the same happen with McConaughey? Probably so.
