The media is constantly full of messages that tout better nutrition. Eat better, feel better.  It is Mother's Day Weekend.  I don't know about you, but one of my mom's favorite refrains has to do with "you better start eating right".  Don't worry, my waistline also screams it everytime I try to put on my favorite pair of jeans.

Here in San Angelo, eating healthy is a lot easier than it is in many other places.  One of the main reasons is all the great farmers in our area.  Every summer, these farmers bring their goods to The Farmer's Market.  This year's grand opening is coming up next weekend, May 14th.  If there were a line for the first day, I would be in it.

The Farmer's Market has an amazing array of fresh grown fruits, vegetables, plants, baked goods, homemade jellies and pickles. If your grandma cooked it, canned it, fileted it or grew it, then you can find it at the market on 609 South Oakes Street. It is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 7am until the last jar of pickles is sold.

And speaking of pickles.  Those homemade pickles later in the season are to die for.

The great thing about fresh vegetables, nutritionists say they are rich in vitamins and minerals that many Americans just don't get in abundance with our fast food culture. Our access to the best growers in the area, provides us with opportunities to stay healthy and active.  Bon Appetite!
