Exactly what are the most popular Christmas cookies in Texas? There are a lot of different answers.  In fact, we found over 100 websites on Google claiming they know Texas' favorite Christmas cookie.

It comes down to personal preferences and being willing to broaden your horizons.  With that in mind, here are the cookies that are popular and/or uniquely popular in Texas.  These cookies are in no particular order.

Sugar Cookie Cutouts- According to Real Simple, this is Texas' most popular Christmas cookie. These cookies are easy to make and children love to be part of the process. There are so many fun shapes that you can create. It seems no holiday season in Texas would be complete without these popular cookies. Perhaps, Real Simple is right. Although Texans may do the simple Sugar Cookie a little different than those in some other states.

2) Palvorones de Canela: This Mexican cookie recipe is made with butter, powdered sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and flour.  This cookie takes the traditional sugar cookie and kicks it up a notch.  Because Hispanic culture is so interwoven and important, this cookie is highly ranked on Texas's favorite Christmas cookie list.

3) Texas Cowboy Cookies: Former First Lady, Laura Bush, popularized her recipe for Cowboy cookies. These cookies are like oatmeal cookies but with a few added ingredients. They include chocolate chips, roasted pecans, and sweetened flake coconut. The Former First Lady's recipe also included a tablespoon of cinnamon. This is not typically added, but perhaps it should be,.

4) Peanut Butter Cookies: Like the sugar cookie cutouts, these simple cookies are always a favorite. Like everything else, though, peanut butter cookies have taken on some Texas characteristics. In fact, Texans tend to prefer their peanut butter cookies with a little extra gusto. Enter: the Texas Sheet Cake Peanut Butter Cookies. These cookies combine dry yellow cake mix with peanut butter for a true Texas treat.

5) Texas Cow Patty Cookies: Cows have always been a basic part of Texas life. There are still wide swaths of West Texas where cows outnumber people.  It is no surprise then, that cow patties inspire the look of one of Texas' most popular holiday cookies.

The cookies contain shortening, butter, brown sugar, oatmeal, cornflakes, coconut and vanilla among other things, and taste a lot better than they look.

Just don't put corn in them.  That's a whole different kind of cookie.
