Where Have All The Flowers Gone? Mother’s Day Shortage in San Angelo?

There's a widely circulating story making the round in newspapers and press reports around the country.  The story says that there may be major flower shortages this year for Mother's Day.  A New York Times story making the rounds on the internet and wire services nationwide claims that because of lingering supply chain issues and poor growing conditions.

Florists in the northeast say that flowers are available, but the labor shortage may mean there are fewer flower arrangers to get them ready for Mother's Day deliveries. Flower arrangers and floral designers are at a premium right now.  There are also supply chain issues with vases and other floral industry products.

So what  is the situation here in San Angelo?

Christine Yancy at the Friendly Flower Shop 2501 Johnson Avenue says the key is ordering early.  She says she hasn't seen a big problem with gettng the flowers she needs.  However, it is important to order early, since some colors and types are most popular and could run out, if you wait until the last minute.

This sentiment was echoed by Vicky Enriques at Stemmed Designs Flower Shop at 135 W Twohig Avenue, E In San Angelo. Says Vicky, "We are fortunate here in West Texas, our climate is better than the northeast and our suppliers have been able to provide us with what we need. We work with a lot of vendors, so they are able to maneuver to get product to the stores."

She added that there may be spot shortages of some of the more popular varieties or certain popular colors, so it is again never a good idea to wait until the last minute to order those designs for Mom's special day.

"The prettiest product sells first", she says.

White Roses symbolize reverence and purity.  the white rose is an ideal Mother's Day rose since there is no one who deserves more reverence than mom.  She shows nothing but pure, unconditional love. In Christian tradition they also symbolize the Virgin Mother's heavenly motherly love.

Red Roses is usually reserved for deep romantic love.  However, if your mom loves red, there's nothing wrong with sending her bright red roses.  They symbolize love in all its forms.  It is popular to send red and pink roses for Mother's Day and other mixed color rose bouquets.
