Would You Support a Hand-Free Ordinance for Drivers in San Angelo?
I walk around a lot, and I must be wary of drivers. Often, I will see a driver who is talking and holding a cell phone. I must be mindful of that driver because they aren't necessarily mindful of me and if there is a collision between the two of us, I'd be a certain loser in that outcome.
I know it is illegal to text and drive in the state of Texas, but from what I can tell San Angelo does not have a hand-free ordinance.
When doing research, I found this map. I'm not sure of its authenticity, but it does not indicate San Angelo has a hands-free ordinance.
I lived between San Antonio and Austin before I moved to San Angelo a couple of months ago. Pretty much all Central Texas cities have hands-free ordinances. The map also shows Amarillo, El Paso and cities around and including Dallas and Houston have the ordinances along with cities including and around Corpus Christi. Wichita Falls also has a hands-free ordinance.
So, I wonder why San Angelo does not have a hands-free ordinance. Should San Angelo have one? Or are drivers out here safe enough that it isn't necessary.
Luckily for me in my short two months here in San Angelo, I have avoided drivers holding and talking on their cell phones. Hopefully I can continue to avoid these drivers in the future.
