The long range forecast issued from the National Weather Service on December 13th, indicates that temperatures from 12/21-12/27 could be significantly BELOW normal. This means at least the possibility of a White Christmas in the area seems to be a bit higher.

While it is impossible to forecast this far out, it would certainly be a nice touch if Christmas this year in San Angelo included some snow. As the words of the old Christmas Carol say, "Since I have no place to go, Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow".

At the very least, the words of the hit Christmas song "Baby, It's Cold Outside" may come into play.

As for now, the Extended Weather forecast posted at weather.com for San Angelo puts the chances for precipitation on Christmas Day at 1% with highs near 50 and lows in the 30's.  This far out, that can change.

Technically, a White Christmas doesn't mean it had to snow on Christmas Day. he National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) defined a White Christmas as:  "a snow depth of at least 1 inch observed on December 25th."  This does not mean it must snow on Christmas.  What it does mean is that it must either snow 1 inch on Christmas or 1 inch of snow from a previous day must still be on the ground.

According to weather.gov

"The last official White Christmas occurred in Abilene in 2009.  At San Angelo, however, a White Christmas has not been observed since before Irving Berlin ever put his famous song into words!  Not since before World War II has at least 1 inch of snow been observed in San Angelo on Christmas Day".

There is still one way to guarantee a "White Christmas" in San Angelo, but this weekend is your last chance. The Angelo Civic Theater production of Irving Berlin's stage show of "White Christmas" wraps this weekend.

While it might b premature to predict a snowy Christmas this year in San Angelo, I would polish off the sled and get the snow mittens ready just in case.  If Christmas shows us anything, it is that miracles can happen. Wishing for it hard enough, just might make it happen
